Following a regional exchange of experience, the Government of French Polynesia, through its Ministry of Environment, requested RESCCUE to replicate the New Caledonian experience. With co-funding from the Department of Marine and Mining Resources and the French Biodiversity Agency, RESCCUE contracted a team of consultants led by Vertigo Lab to assess opportunities for greener taxes and subsidies with a focus on the primary sector: aquaculture, fisheries, pearl farming, crop farming and animal husbandry. RESCCUE:
- Produced a review of current taxes and subsidies, together with an analysis of their effects on the environment;
- Developed proposals on greener taxes and subsidies;
- Assessed the proposed reforms’ effects on the budget, environment, society and economy.
